Eileen Gray Bibendum Arm Chair
Born in Ireland and from an affluent, artistic family background, Eileen Gray studied at the Slade School of Fine Arts. In 1902 she moved to France, where she trained in drawing and in the art of lacquer. At first Eileen designed furniture, but later she expanded her work into interior design. In 1922 she opened the galerie, “Jean Desert“ as a showroom for her own work. Eileen Gray was highly regarded by many leading artist of her time, including artists from the Bauhaus. Beginning in 1926 she worked as an architect and developed several architectural projects, for ex. in Le Corbusier‘s “Pavillon Des Temps Noveaux“ at the Paris Fair in 1937.

Primo is a top grain Semi-Aniline Leather that has just a small amount of pigment or clear finish added to its surface, thus allowing the natural unique characteristics of the hide to still show through while offering some of the benefits of color consistency and increased durability.
Exquisite is the softest and most expensive leather. This Full-Aniline Leather is left in its most natural/naked state after the aniline-dye process. The leathers reveal different grain patterns, healed scars, and other natural markings. Dyes are absorbed differently between each hide so there may be tonality differences in each piece of leather. Full Aniline means that it is UNPROTECTED with no pigments or top coatings sprayed on after the aniline-dye process, which keeps the leather in the most natural and soft state possible.
This top grain leather is aniline dyed and turned in drums to soften it. Then, a finish coat is added to protect the hide against stains and fading. Our top grain leather has a fine and supple hand. We feel that it is an excellent combination of softness, durability, consistency of color, resistance to sunlight, and ease of maintenance.
